30 Days in Nature Challenge

in Sustainability - 3 min read

In the spirit of loving life on Earth, just as we do, we are curious to hear (and see!) about your interactions with the natural environment.

Lately, it seems that technology keeps us inside more than it used to, and sadly, this appears to be a growing worldwide trend.

Televisions entertain us with news, horrors and comedies (though we gave up the T.V. as such 15 years ago, watching movies online is hard to resist…), smartphones are omnipresent – “at the ready” day and night with feeds to scroll and pass mindlessly by, we are so connected on a technological level that we are losing touch with what really matters.

To help combat this tech-craze, we regularly have digital detox days where we spend more than than 24 hours offline at a time – and we only turn the Wi-Fi on when absolutely necessary. The internet router is always unplugged at night.

It is like stepping back into time, “a good time”, without a computer, phones or excessive background (white) noise. And it is all about being together, reading out loud, making sustainable clothes, writing poetry, and overall being more creative. A digital detox day is all about doing, rather than watching others do.

While limiting time online feels good as a temporary fix, perhaps it does not create enough action, as we must step forward to a sustainable future. In order to truly love where we live, we need to honor it each and every day.

With that in mind, we would like to know, how much time do you spend outside on a daily/weekly basis?

Or rather, how much meaningful time do you allow yourself to immerse in nature?

Being outside, earthing, has so many benefits, not only for your physical health, but for your overall mental and spiritual well being.

It helps soothe feelings of eco-anxiety too.

And as you spend more and more time in nature, you will develop a deep respect for everything that is not created by human hands and minds – you’ll even start to feel the energy of the Earth!

30 Days in Nature Challenge

For 30 days, starting November 18 and ending December 17, we are committed to spending more time in nature, as individuals and as a family. We will photograph what we see and report on how we feel about each of the following topics:

  3. fear
  4. blindfold
  5. branch
  6. macro
  7. distance
  8. forage

  11. sound/silence
  12. aroma
  13. black & white
  14. bark
  15. ground
  16. space
  17. immerse
  18. comfort level
  19. water
  20. texture

We encourage you to join us by spending the next 30 days closer to nature for yourself, and to follow along on Instagram. Make sure to tag your own photos with #30daysinnature

Relax, ground, dream, wonder and smile as you immerse yourself in the outside world.

For the sake of a sustainable future and for an Earth that is loved by all, get outside, wander and explore the wonder of nature around you.

No matter what the weather, we’ll be outside – taking cold baths in the creek, hiking near and far, looking up, laying down and walking with our bare feet on the ground.

Come, join us! It is just the experience you need to end 2019 on the right foot.
