How are you receiving your daily dose of nature?

Let us start by stating the obvious – we all need more nature in our lives.

You know your own habits, but for the sake of statistics, let’s examine how much time the typical human spends inside their home and in various buildings throughout the day and night. Studies show that Americans and Europeans spend 90% of their lives indoors. We’d venture to guess that for many people it’s much more than that.

Go ahead and crunch the numbers for yourself if you want the details. We’ll spare you the math and say that it’s far more years you’ll spend inside, than outside, never seeing the sun rise behind the hazel bushes.

Why would it matter how many hours I spend outside?

Taking time to get outside on a daily basis helps to:

  • improve your mood
  • reduce feelings of anxiety, stress and anger
  • promote a sense of relaxation and calm
  • boost creativity, concentration and focus
  • increase your level of exercise and intake of fresh air
  • improve your physical and mental health
  • renew your curiosity for all living things
  • reconnect with nature – and nature with you

With all these amazing benefits of spending more time in nature, the next question is: what prevents you from getting outside every day?

It may be that you can’t find the time. But you can create it.

Perhaps the weather is bad. But it will always get better, even in a matter of hours.

Your duties keep you stuck inside. But you can add to them, often in a fun way.

We get it, even we make excuses from time to time – to finish a project, to write an article on the computer, to post something on social media, or to send an email we forgot about. But all of those things take away time from being outdoors. And for the sake of living a well-balanced life, it’s nice to know when to set aside technology and immerse yourself in the cold rushing water of a creek, or to bask in the sun. Or simply stand with your bare feet on the ground.

But, I’m busy.

We’re all busy, yet some of us are busier than others. If you don’t have enough time to physically get outside, did you know that looking at images and videos of nature have similar positive benefits for your health and well-being (excluding the beneficial intake of outdoor air)?

People have a more positive outlook on life when they view images from nature.

They heal faster, in part because they are happier.

Plus, smiling is contagious. If a picture of a meadow turns your frown upside down, you may even improve someone else’s day.

So, we’ve come up with our own nature-based therapy in the form of a Daily Dose of Nature.

What is the Daily Dose of Nature?

Our Daily Dose of Nature is a source of outdoor inspiration for many.

It’s a way to reconnect to nature, even while sitting indoors.

It’s a way to see another part of the world and to vicariously experience a life lived seasonally.

It’s a way to connect to another time and another place, where the sky is blue, the grass is green and where nature is at the forefront of every day.

When you sign up for the Daily Dose of Nature, starting on the 1st of each month, you’ll receive an email with:

  • one outdoor photo of the day, from our back meadow and the surroundings of Breb, Romania.
  • one nature poem, freshly crafted by one of the three of us (Cheryl, Csermely or Roland)
